Shakti Kriya Yoga Initiation
of the Siddha Path
Kriya Yoga is an ancient spiritual science also known as Shakti Kriya Yoga. The yogic teaching of Shri Mahashaktiananda has its roots in the distant past. Shaktiananda Yoga teachings represent the Himalayan masters. The great master Mahavatar Babaji, more than 1200 years ago, instructed his disciples in Kriya Yoga. He is also known as Kriya Babaji Nagaraj, who was born in the year 203 A. D. in what is now the seaport town of Porto Novo on the eastern coast of India. In the twentieth century Kriya Babaji instructed Paramahansa Yogananda to bring Kriya Yoga to America.
Shakti Kriya Yoga includes meditation techniques that can help one to achieve Self-Realization and the direct experience of God/Goddess. It was first brought to the West by Paramahansa Yogananda and is repeatedly referred to in his book, Autobiography of A Yogi.
Self-Realization, as taught by Shri Mahashaktiananda, is gained through the teachings of the Himalayan masters lineage. Students of Shaktiananda Yoga may request Shakti Kriya Yoga initiation after intensive study and practice of Shaktiananda Yoga. This includes meditation techniques and study of the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda, Swami Kriyananda and Shri Mahashatiananda. This also includes joyful service; spiritual friendship; and the development of right attitudes in all areas of your life.
Those wanting to learn the advanced Shakti Kriya meditation techniques need to have a regular daily practice of meditation and yoga postures. Further steps include more advanced meditation practices and the exploration of one’s inner relationship with the Divine Creator, the Masters, Paramahansa Yogananda and Shri Mahashatiananda. An important step prior to receiving Shakti Kriya Initiation (instruction in the advanced Shakti Kriya techniques) is that of discipleship to the guru. Lessons and courses in discipleship are available. It typically requires a minimum of one year of daily practice of asanas, energization exercises, meditation and the Hong Sau technique before one receives Shakti Kriya initiation from Shri Mahashaktiananda.
“Self-Realization is the knowing in all parts of body, mind, and soul that you are now in possession of the kingdom of God; that you do not have to pray that it come to you; that God’s omnipresence is your omnipresence; and that all you need to do is improve your knowing.”
Paramahansa Yogananda
